Spire Health
Role: Senior Producer
In 2014 I witnessed the birth of Spire Health - an innovative company that revolutionized the idea of wearable technology. Today they have built a successful platform offering novel tag sensors that are widely used by doctors and patients. My team was tasked with the marketing launch of Spire Health's first product - “Stone” - a stress management and activity tracker.
The goal was to create an impactful video to help Spire Health stand out in the wearable technology market. Our story focuses on a young woman who uses Spire Stone to become aware of her breathing patterns and shift her state of mind from tense to calm. This is a slightly unconventional approach which focuses on the effect of the product rather than strictly its use.
We shot in two contrasting locations - a hectic, busy city and a peaceful, enchanting forest. The transition between opposite worlds happens in the liminal space of the glass elevator (there are only 2 active glass elevators in San Francisco and securing one of them for the shoot was quite a task).
Sound effects, slow motion, and shallow depth of field were implemented to create a sensory experience and subconsciously affect the viewer’s own breathing patterns. We used a combination of natural and stylized lighting to help articulate the boundaries between inner and outer realms. The spot was shot in a 2.35:1 Cinemascope aspect ratio to enhance the cinematic feeling and make the sensory shifts more dramatic.
This work won the 2014 W3 Award (Silver) from The Academy of Interactive and Visual Arts.
